I finally got my hands on an SSMT :D

I have alreay made my own chassis for it

And already have the body from a prev project

The first thing i'm gonna be looking for is a decent trans,as the stock one is very noisy.

Have the trans and axles fitted now too.

Next is to work on the wheelbase and get the swampers fitted.

I need some tiny shocks too around 25.30 mm with as much travel as poss.

I have the wheelbase sorted now and the link lengths.

As soon as i sort a paypal prob out i'll be getting the mini quake shaft set,and maybe a micro-t trans too.

I've been trying to mod the axles slightly to get smoother articulation. I have added MZM ball ends to the front, and shortened the rear casings, and used a short link end(stock axial) which brings the wheeltrack back to stock too.

The only thing with this method is i'm going to have to glue m2 rod into the m3 link ends,as i have the ball links and cups to fit m2 and don't want to go bigger that end.

I'm going to read through some ssmt builds to see how people did the second set of links(if at all) for a proper 4 link setup.

I am halfway there to converting the front axle to run a mini-z awd drive shaft,so then i will have plenty wheel choice.
I think i have the rear figured too,but need to research a bit more before doing anything.

I messed up drilling the link mounts(they weren't even) so i've just finished chassis mk2 :) and have the rear links cut.Hopefully i can get this to a roller this w/e.

Thanks,i've always liked them too.(comes from having an older bro who's been into them for years).
Small update...here's the mk2 chassis next to the mk1 for reference,as you can see it is a lot narrower.I did this because the shock mounts on the axles were the exact same width as the chassis,so mounting them would have been a nightmare. Also the mk1 chassis was too short at the back.

Now i'm in two minds wether to run an ESC or not,as it will give me less to place under the body.
I think a micro-t trans would work well and the ESC can handle that motor, but am still unsure just how big they are,tho running the setup pictured below would be cheaper(already have it :)) and easier, having the modded servo connect to the final output gear from the stock SSMT trans.

For now i'm using a small nicd pack that came with the ssmt, any suggestions for a new pack? Lipo is out really as i can't afford a balancer too.

nice brass work. how durable are they?

Thanks,it's surprisingly strong considering how little bracing is on there atm. Once i get the trans figured and drive shafts,i will add some more strenghening bars to it to make doubly sure.
I'm going to try these too, before i shell out on mini-quake shafts.
