I've been working on this little project of mine for a few days now, it's a 1/35 model Unimog. It's only going to be RWD but it has a pretty powerfull geared motor for that rear axle. This one is kind of an experimental proto-type (being that it's my 1st in this scale) so eventually i'll be making it 4WD as soon as I customize and fabricate a FWD axle to go along with the rear. The geared motor that i'm using will allow me to put in a longer shaft so that it can also transfer power to the front aswell.

Anyways, here's the pics of it so far:

The last pic is just a mock up of it to show the lenght and size.

More to come soon.

Ok, just a few small updates:

I spent a few hrs last night sketching out and designing a new rear axle for this thing - I could figure out how to add the springs to the 1st - so I ended up making a entire new one that works alot better.

Here's a couple updates pics of the front and rear axles plus a mock up of the truck so far:

The next thing for me to do is make a sturdy chassis piece and add the electronics, servo and motor; Once those are in all the other minior details will follow.

More to come soon.

Updates - 4/19/08

I did some more work on it last night and I got the motor also. The set-up will have to be changed because I don't quite like how it looks - it's too stuck out and bulky looking - so i'll hide it completely in the back and use a couple gears to get power to the axle instead.

Here's a few pics just to show you guys what I meant and also a few flex and a size comparison pic:

After I get the the gearbox and axle gears all figured out and fixed I'll post some more updated pics.

Here's a few updated pics of the motor and gear set-up which also increases the speed alot more - there's no problem with torque (I just hope the gears can handle it).

Now it's time to drop in the electronics and all the other stuff will follow inline.
More to come soon!

i have that very same model kit! i had even started a 4wd chassis for it using an xmods evolution truck chassis. unlike yours, i never completed it.

whats the traction like with the model kit wheels/tires?

LOL - cool! I was going to try it out on a evo chassis aswell but since i had alot of sketched out ideas for axles I change my mind on it. The traction isn't so bad - the tires are solid (not hollow) but the rubber compound is soft enough to give it some grip on most surfaces. I might sell this one once i'm done with it - it was fun but I don't need more r/c's around when i don't have space plus after I build this I proabably won;t have time to play with it -lol:D

I haven't had much time to work on this one lately but i do have a few updated pics on it so far. The only thing left is to add the details, paint what needs to be painted, and then fasten what needs to be secured on it.

here's the updated pics and a short vid. also:

time is actually my problem too. as an example, last summer i bought a parkzone cessna and as of today i still have not flown it:mad:

have you seen any of the un model kit unimogs? i'm also looking to try one of the 6x6 or 8x8 man trucks when axel kits are available.

arch- same! once axels are available, id like a tatra 8x8, but i dont think they make kits for them:( theres always styrene though:)

at one time i was watching an auction on ebay for a 10x10 military hauler! it woudl haev been awsome to build.

right now i'm not sure if i want to complete my unimog kit or jump right to a 8x8 icv stryker. also keeping an eye on some 6x6 man trucks...

my fear is the 1:24 axels might be too wide for the 1:35 trucks

Time is an issue for me also - I have alot ofg stuff that I own Brand new and I haven't bee able to play/mess around with them either -

LOL - a free redbull would have gotten my attention also.-lol

I've see a 1/35 or 1/24 6x6 and 8x8 on Ebay recently - they're really expensive that why i haven't even though about get one yet. I would love to do an 8x8 also as soon as i can afford one of the model kits - the SSMT axles are too wide for the 1/35 so I can find a cheap or reasonable 1/24the model i'll try to get it for sure. If they do start to manufacture 1/24th axles i'll probably get 2 sets and build oone from scratch - it's way easier to make it fit the axles and all.

I finally got almost everything done - I added the other details, painted all those parts that needed to be painted and I added the decals for it - i'm using the Koniglich Belgische Armee '04 look for this one. The only thing left to do is for me to make some custom side mirrors because the originals are too fragile, then I have to make a custom mount piece for the bad cargo cover - it will be held on by Velco so that it's easy to remove for any electronic repairs.

Here's the new pics and a short video just so that youc an see that it works:

Just incase you guys wanted to see the real 1:1 Unimog with the same paint scheme - here's the pic of it:

I'll probably put this one aside for now until I can work out a 4x4 system for it, but until then I hope you guys enjoyed it. Thanks for watching guys,
